About Echo Base Charity Con

What is Echo Base (Charity) Con?
Echo Base Charity Con is a 100% Star Wars event by fans, for fans with the goal of offering a day filled with entertainment and the raising of funds for Force for Change – the official charity of Lucasfilm / Disney.

Why is the event called Echo Base?
The name Echo Base is derived from the Star Wars movie The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and became the name of the Dutch Star Wars fan club Echo Base which was active between 2000 and 2004. During that time three conventions were organised: in 2001, 2002 en 2003. Logically, the name Echo Base Con(vention) was chosen. While the fan club no longer exists, we decided to continue with the name Echo Base Con for the new edition.

Who is organising Echo Base Charity Con?
Echo Base Charity Con is being organised by the Echo Base Foundation, which was active earlier between 2000 and 2004. For more information about the foundation, please check here.

Why does it have Charity in the title?
The raising of funds for a charity has always been an important aspect of Echo Base Con. In 2002 and 2003 the proceeds respectively went to the Dutch Cancer Society and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The proceeds of our 2017 will also go towards a charity: working with Star Wars: Force for Change, the Echo Base Foundation will donate all net profits of this edition to the live saving work of UNICEF.

Where and when does Echo Base Charity Con take place?
Echo Base Charity Con takes place on Saturday, December 16th, 2017 from 10AM-9:30PM at Kinepolis Jaarbeurs Utrecht. The conventions runs until 6PM, followed by the charity screening of The Last Jedi.

Why was the date of December 16th chosen?
The date of December 16th was not chosen by chance. Not only will the newest movie, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, be in theaters starting that week, but it also marks the 40th anniversary of the  premier of Star Wars in Dutch cinemas (December 15th, 1977).

Is the event suitable for all ages?
Echo Base Charity Con is an event suitable for the entire family! Do take into account that the sound levels might be somewhat loud during screenings at the main stage.

What kind of activities are there at Echo Base Charity Con?
In short: everything that has to do with Star Wars can be found at Echo Base Charity Con. Several guests who worked on the movies both off and on screen will be present/ During the panels you can learn more about their experiences in making the movies. Of course, you can meet our guests during the meet & greets. There will be screenings of several (fan) films, with the makers pbeing present. Thanks to fan groups such as the 501st Legion and the R2-D2 Builders Club you will come face to face with Stormtroopers, droids, rebels and other good & bad guys from the Star Wars universe. Or come dressed as your favorite charachter yourself! And of course you can purchase any kind of Star Wars merchandise at the numerous exhibitors.

Will there be signing sessions with the guests?
There are signing sessions planned for the majority of our guests. In most cases payment is required for getting autographs. The price is determined by our guests, but we aim to keep these prices as low as possible.

Do I have to bring something to get signed?
Our guests will have photos available for signing, but you are more than welcome to bring your own item to get signed.

Can I have my picture taken with the guests?
In many cases, this can be done at the table during the signing sessions. It is possible a fee may be required.

All guests will take part in photo shoot sessions where you can have your picture taken with your favourite guest in a professional photo studio. The photo is printed instantly (13×18 format) and you can also download the photo for free, so you can print as many copies as you like.

Separate tickets are required for the photo shoots. In some cases, the proceeds will benefit Unicef via Star Wars: Force for Change. Tickets are now for sale in our ticket shop. You can also buy them at the event.

Do I have a guaranteed seat at a screening or panel?
Theatre 12 has 619 seats. Seats are available on a first come, first serve principle! If you want to be assured of a seat, please make sure you get there on time. For the exclusive charity screening of Star Wars: The Last Jedi your seat is guaranteed (tickets for this event are sold out).

Is is possible to watch Star Wars: The Last Jedi at the event?
In the evening, there’s a an exclusive charity screening of Star Wars: The Last Jedi with special guests from the film in attendance, including Tim Rose (Admiral Ackbar)! After the film, the guests will talk about their experiences making the film, and will of course take questions from the audience as well. Tickets for this special event with all proceeds going to UNICEF are now sold out.

Throughout the day, Kinepolis has several regular screenings of The Last Jedi. Check out the Kinepolis site for times.

When will the program be made available online?
Our goal is to publish the program two weeks in advance of the event. We will announce the activities leading up to that time. You can find them in the menu under [Program].


How can I purchase tickets?
Tickets are available through this page and in the more than 450 stores of Primera. For a shop in your vicinity, please check www.primera.nl.

Can I buy tickets on the day?
NO, it is not possible to buy tickets on the day. Echo Base Charity Con is SOLD OUT.

I’ve bought tickets via Paylogic, but have not received them yet. What do I do?
Do you have any questions about the (online) ticket sales? Then please contact the Paylogic Customer Service via customerservice.paylogic.com or call +31 20 700 9802.

I’ve bought tickets, but am now unable to go. Can I get a refund?
Unfortunately, it’s not possible to get a refund. You can safely resell your tickets via www.ticketswap.nl.

Is there a possibility to buy drinks and food?
Yes! During or after Echo Base Charity Con you can go to the ground floor of Kinepolis Jaarbeurs and visit Speys for a delightful lunch or dinner. Candies, sodas, crisps and other snacks are available in the Kinepolis Jaarbeurs store on the first floor. Just outside Kinepolis you can find Restaurant Ruig and Miyago and Jones.

Can I bring my pet?
N0, pets are not allowed, with the exception of Porgs.

Is the event accessible for wheelchairs?
Yes. Kinepolis Jaarbeurs has wheelchair spots in every screening room. An elevator and a disabled toilet are also present.

Is Wifi available?
At Speys you can use the Wifi network for guests.

Can I charge my phone/camera/laptop somewhere?
Yes, at Speys USB and power outlets are available.

Can I park my car at Kinepolis Jaarbeurs?
Around the Jaarbeurs there is ample parking space. P1 and P3 are located most favorably relative to Kinepolis Jaarbeurs. When parking for more than two hours you can make use of a reduced parking fee. Show your parking ticket at the register of Kinepolis Jaarbeurs to receive a reduced fee of 8 Euros. When parking under two hours, the regular fee applies.

I have bought ticketst via Paylogic, but I have yet to receive them? What should I do?
When in doubt if your order has gone through properly, you can always contact the customer service of Paylogic by phone via 0900-72956442, or by sending an email to customerservice@paylogic.com.

Can I pay with (credit/debit) card at Echo Base Con?
Some exhibitors accept cards, but not all. Please make sure you bring along enough cash. There is an ATM machine in the central hall of “Jaarbeurs” or at “Utrecht Centraal” railwaystation.

Is there a cloak room?
There is no cloak room in the venue.

Can I go outside the venue and back in?
After your ticket has been scanned, you will receive a wrist band. With the wrist band, you can move freely in and out of the venue. Please note: wrist bands are not transferable. If the wrist band is damaged or lost you will be charged the price of a day ticket (€ 25,-) if you want to gain re-entry to the event.

Can I promote my event?
During Echo Base Charity Con it is NOT permitted to advertise your event (for example by handing out flyers) without written permission from Stichting Echo Base. It is also not allowed to hand out flyers outside the venue, both on the private property of Kinepolis Jaarbeurs Utrecht as well in public space of gemeente Utrecht).
