Echo Base Charity Con 2019 is centered around a special cause. For this edition – like with previous editions – it was not a hard decision to choose a worthwhile cause. We are proud to announce that the Echo Base Foundation will donate all net proceeds of this edition to the Children Cancer-free Foundation, better known under the Dutch acronym KiKa.
Every year, more than 550 children in the Netherlands develop cancer. At this moment, 75% of these children are cured. It is KiKa’s goal to raise the percentage of cured children to 95%. To accomplish this, they raise funds for innovative research and other activities in the field of childhood cancer, aimed at less pain, more cure and a better quality of life. Furthermore, KiKa focuses on education on childhood cancer.
There are many different forms of childhood cancer. Because each form occurs rarely, specific knowledge is needed for every treatment. Until recently, research and treatment were carried out at several university hospitals. Due to this fragmented approach, it was difficult to gain experience and train specialists.
The money raised by KiKa is spend on scientific research in the Netherlands and on support of the Princess Máxima Center for pediatric oncology in Utrecht. This is the largest research and care center for childhood cancer in Europe. Here the best doctors, researchers and other specialists work together to ensure that children with cancer receive the best treatment.
