The props and scale models from the original Star Wars trilogy are iconic, giving the films a lived-in, realistic look—making the universe feel truly alive.

To achieve this, George Lucas founded a special company: ILM. With a limited budget and boundless creativity, ILM crafted a world using military, photographic, and industrial parts, plus model kits of tanks, cars, and planes. Small, often overlooked details—called "greeblies" by Lucas—enriched the films’ visual style.

But how do you create such props yourself? What do you need to recreate them authentically? Marvin Stiefelhagen and Roy Gilsing of Lowland Props, along with Dan Sczudlik of Dantooine Props, share their passion and techniques in this panel. Through unique projects, they’ll show how research, craftsmanship, and attention to detail bring film history to life.

Get inspired—there might be a propmaker in you too!
